2:50 Kempton Park Rosebery Handicap Class 2
BECAUSEWECAN currently 13-2 with William Hill
It may not be the weekend’s feature handicap, but Kempton’s Rosebery is just as competitive as the Lincoln at Donny.
The horse I fancy is Mark Johnstone’s Becasuewecan. He caught my eye over the summer when he finished 3rd in the Racing UK Heitage Handicap at Glorious Goodwood and 24 hours later finished 4th in another ultra-competitive handicap at the meeting.
He returned this season at Lingfield Park last weekend after a five month break and was beaten just a nose which is encouraging. The down side is he’s been risen 5lbs for that.
However, this four year old will now be fully race fit which will be a big plus on Saturday, and he’s already carried a large weight to victory twice before.

- CHARASMATIC trainer Clive Britain has won the Brockelsby Stakes twice in 1976 and 1995 and will this year saddle both Diplomasi and Mayhab in order to win a third.
Britain told Racing Post: “It would be the first time I have run two in the race but they are two nice horses that are ready to run and I think both will run well, but as they are my first two-year-olds you are never sure until they are on the course. They have worked well together with an older horse and have jumped out of the stalls.
“I have won the race a couple of times. Willie Carson rode Red Johnnie and we won it with World Premier so we have had some early types before. The difference this year is I have 60 two-year-olds. Last year we upgraded but the year before I had 20 two-year-old so hadn’t much chance.”
2. Racing For Change’s 2011 ‘Premier’ Flat season could see the conclusion of York’s Ebor meeting moved to a Saturday.
The course’s Chief Executive William Derby said: “York racecourse is engaged with the Racing For Change project across a range of initiatives and shares the desire to further increase the profile of the sport and make the best use of feature races and showcase festivals.”

- AFTER 6mm of rainfall on Wednesday evening the going at Doncaster, ahead of Saturday’s Lincoln meeting, has changed from good to soft to soft (good to soft in places).
Clerk of the course David Williams told Racing Post: “We have had a dry day today [Thursday] and had none of the light rain that was forecast but we could see another 6mm fall tonight and then tomorrow [Friday] could be a more showery day.
“Saturday could be much the same but quite promising and bright in the afternoon. Heavy rain is forecast for Sunday but that could now come after racing.”

- DAVID REYNOLDS has been charged on two counts by the BHA after his attack on jockey Keiran Fallon at Lingfield Park last weekend.
The construction company boss is accused of violent and improper behaviour in premises licensed by the BHA, and acting in a manner prejudicial to the integrity, proper conduct and good reputation of British racing.
The enquiry will be heard on Monday, March 29 and Reynold’s could be facing a heavy fine of being warned off.

- BRITISH based trainers Henry Cecil and Marco Botti are confidant their horses (Twice Over and Gitano Hernando) will put up bold shows in Saturday’s Dubai World Cup at Meydan.
Of the 5-1 ante-post favourite Twice Over, Henry Cecil said: “I think Twice Over is spot on. There should be no excuses. I wouldn’t swap him for anything in the race, although afterwards I might.”
Gitano Hernando is currently best priced at 6-1 with most firms and Botti said: “All the plans are going the right way. He’s got experience of travelling, which gives us confidence to say he can do it. He’s not here as an outsider.”

- HENRY Cecil is keen to go back to war with Breeder’s Cup Filly & Mares Turf winner Midday against her Oaks conquerer Sariska later this season.
Cecil told his website: ” Midday has wintered particularly well and will hopefully be a live contender for the major fillies’ middle-distance races.
“I would very much like to see her clash with Sariska again over a mile and a half on good ground. I wouldn’t take her on on soft ground but it would be great for the sport if they could renew their rivalry on decent ground.”

3:10 Doncaster William Hill Lincoln Class 2
HARRISON GEORGE (drawn 17) currently 20-1 with most firms
I have been watching the weather before deciding what my pin will fall on for this cavalry charge to start the flat season and with the ground already soft and more rain predicted, I have plumbed for Harrison George.
Richard Fahey has five entries in this race and had it been dry, I would have gone for Mister Hardy, but will take the clue and go with the stable apprentice in this race.
He has won on heavy and has progressed over the last couple of years. I am sure he will stay and give a good account of himself.
While respecting the favourite, I think the biggest danger may be Smokey Oakey, a Group 3 winner on soft ground who has slipped down the handicap may have more to offer on this ground.

2:00 Doncaster William Hill Spring Mile Class 2
KIWI BAY (drawn 7) each way
My tip this week is Kiwi Bay at Doncaster in the first race on Lincoln day. I have chosen Kiwi Bay because it had been running well at the end of last season and I think that he handles the softer ground i think that the five year old would get a place in this Class 2 handicap.
